Where We Work
Thailand
As the regional base for many development organizations throughout the Mekong subregion, conducting activities in Thailand presents opportunities for regionally relevant and transboundary results. Thailand is also home to the region’s financial sector and source of substantial cross-border investments into Vietnam, Lao PDR, and Cambodia. We focus on strengthening environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards on infrastructure projects of transboundary scope, which increases transparency of cross-border investments while strengthening regional energy security and sustainable natural resource management. All activities in Thailand are designed with these factors considered, yielding results that have transboundary impacts and regional models for replication in the medium- and long-term.
Activities in Thailand include technical assistance on sustainable energy planning with the Energy Policy and Planning Office in the Ministry of Energy; supporting civil society organizations to protect and preserve the Mekong River; ensuring social safeguards are considered along the high-speed rail route from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima; enhancing the private sector’s ESG strategy and capacity; and promoting clean investments and green financing with Thai financiers.
